There are many factors to take into account when renovating a house, especially if you choose to mix different styles.
Paying homage to a client’s cultural heritage, for example, is both a beautiful and delicate undertaking – and one that Villabouw Sels needed to consider when rebuilding this Belgian villa for a client with Indonesian roots.
The final result is a unique blend of both cultures into one harmonious look.
Although the interior mainly follows a contemporary style, there are several elements present that you wouldn’t find in your typical European home.
Lieve De Pooter, the interior architect responsible for the redesign, makes ample use of natural materials such as wood, marble and terrazzo for the villa’s new look. She explains the inspiration behind her material choices in the video above.
"The fact is, my client has Indonesian roots. Therefore, I wanted to subtly integrate exotic wood species into the interior. Infinite Wood was the perfect solution to work with."
“Your first choice is obviously based on feelings. I picked out these materials because they were very beautiful – and perfectly matched the atmosphere we were trying to create for this project,” Lieve says.

The home started off as a blank canvas for rich textures and colours: wood that’s full of character, striking marble with brown and gold veins, neutral furniture and eccentric accessories – and of course, pops of colour that draw you in.
There’s no question that this combination simply works, transforming the villa into a forever home and into a favourite place.
