Last month, the beau monde of the interior design industry flocked to Milan to attend the Salone del Mobile, the world’s biggest furnishing and design event. During the event, we uncovered some remarkable and refreshing ideas to spark your inspiration.

These have been categorised to help you layer your design in terms of materials, colour, textures, styles…

Discover how to combine these looks with our wood veneer into creating a new favourite place.

Warm, earthy colours were very present during this year’s design event – terracotta in particular.

A colour that has been present for centuries through its history in earthenware pots is now making its comeback to interior design as a cosy, homey shade.

Pro tip: If you’re looking to imitate this colour through wood veneer, you’re best off with our Shinnoki Terra Sapele look.

Burgundy red, wine red, cherry red… If you’re not into terracotta and its pastel companions, there’s a more striking shade that’s also trending right now: dark red. Turn up the dramatics on this shade and go all out with this confident, beautiful colour.

Gucci’s ‘Design Ancora’ exhibition led the way by combining acid green with dark red – but Minotti’s statement coffee table in red marble, accompanied by a dark veneer wall is just as bold… and equally as stunning.

Pro tip: Take it a step further and pick out a wood veneer with a red hue. We recommend taking a look at utile, sapele or European cherry.

Although a matt wood look will always remain timeless, high-gloss furniture pieces are currently in

These statement pieces work as a major focal point in any room and are great at highlighting the natural characteristics of the wood grain.

Pro tip: Combine it with a beautiful burl wood veneer to highlight the unique wood characteristics, as demonstrated by architect Dieter Vander Velpen.

Wood and stone are a beloved pairing that has always worked well together. The use of this natural material is still very present in interior trends – in all sorts and sizes. But aside from the red marble, if our experts were to pick one favourite that they regularly came across during the event, it would be travertine.

Pro tip: Although the rule of thumb when combining stone and wood in an interior is to choose a smooth-surface stone to balance out the natural wood grain, 3ARCHITECTEN chooses to go against the grain in their Waer Waters spa project combining bluestone and wood with gorgeously rugged results.

If there was one thing that caught the eye of our experts, it was the all the shine: chromes and metals glittered from all corners of the Salone del Mobile, bringing a futuristic look to this edition.

These cool elements pair wonderfully with wood veneer, bringing a modern or industrial vibe by combining contrasting dark woods with light metals – or the other way round.

Pro tip: When selecting a wood veneer with a cool undertone such as ash or pine, your best choice is a silver metal. Warm metals such as gold or copper work better with warmer wood tones.

Stepping away from rigid lines and preconceived notions of what furniture or walls should look like, our wood enthusiasts spotted a lot of fluid, organic shapes this year.

An interior space instantly becomes more fun and relaxing through the use of interesting, free-flowing designs – linking your mind with the irregularities of nature and its spontaneous shapes.

Pro tip: Did you know that Decospan offers wood veneer to create organic, rounded shapes? Take a look at our Decolam and Decoflex range.

Our Decolam solution was used for the exhibition of Masterly – The Dutch in Milano during the Salone del Mobile 2024.

One of the most prevalent themes throughout the exhibition was biophilic design, the principle of connecting an interior with nature through the use of natural lighting, materials, shapes and colours. This creates a happier and healthier environment for people to live and work in.

Although it is not a new trend within the design world, it can feed many of the others – especially when using a natural material such as wood veneer.

Pro tip: Do not underestimate the power of natural light when it comes to biophilic design. Office spaces are so much nicer to work in when people are surrounded by a light, airy interior.

Why choose to design a regular bathroom when you could make it a spathroom

A bathroom is a necessary component of every home. So why not turn it into a tranquil, spa-like abode with luxury at every turn?

Life is all about the little pleasures, after all: wouldn’t your morning be a little brighter if you could choose to do your ablutions in an opulent, relaxing setting?

Pro tip: This trend shouldn’t just extend to homes – and Dieter Vander Velpen and Glenn Sestig understood that briefing. Their spathrooms clad in warm, dark wood and marble in LAB Antwerp and La Réserve in Knokke make every visit an absolute experience.
