This bright and cheerful home is a breath of fresh air compared to the classic greige interiors that saturate the interior design landscape.
Stepping away from the status quo, the architects of Atelier Vens Vanbelle aren’t afraid of making bold design choices because they provide the most creatively beautiful interiors.
Dubbed “the factory”, this refurbished house uses an eclectic mix of colours against a backdrop of natural materials such as brick and wood. A distinctive yellow staircase and adjoining indoor urban jungle in the centre of the house serve as major eyecatchers, but nature remains close by with three sets of double doors leading to the garden. Built-in windows make the most of the view and influx of natural lighting.
It’s in the kitchen and upstairs area that wood becomes the main character, however.
Using a custom Decospan Sapele from the Essentials mix, this reddish dark brown wood takes on an almost golden shine in the right conditions – lighting up the interior and adding to its overall cheer.
In fact, no other decorative elements are used in the upstairs area, allowing the rich, warm wood to take centre stage. The Sapele’s subtle grain and character add depth and texture, especially when paired with a neutral floor.
