Project Querkus Marseille - kitchen
Warm meets modern in a lovely open-plan kitchen of a Marseille-based residence in France.

Myriam Burnaz, the interior architect overseeing this renovation project approached it using an organic modern style, combining sleek contemporary elements with coarser natural textures.

The kitchen follows a simple set-up with clean lines and subtle details, allowing the natural beauty of the wood veneer to take centre stage as the main focal point of the room. The kitchen island, cabinets and shelves are all finished using Decospan’s Querkus brand, specifically the Oak Vintage Original Harlem with a matte varnish.

The Oak Vintage Original Harlem is a more outspoken wood with a lot of character, lending a rustic vibe to the classic oak composition through prominent cracks and knots. But there’s also a history behind that character: the wood of the Querkus Vintage range stems from salvaged oak beams, reused and upcycled into a distinct wood veneer look.

But that’s the beauty of this entire kitchen look. The character of the oak is balanced with the cool, white countertops and the tiled backdrop adds another element of texture to the interior. A couple of plants are interspersed throughout the interior, adding a pop of colour and another layer to the natural look. The kitchen extends into a tidy dining area with a slightly more eclectic style.

The satisfying end result left the customer “very pleased” with the use of the wood in the interior, and understandably so: if you are looking for an energising setting to get you through those early Monday mornings, this kitchen surely is a new favourite place.
