Wood is one of humanity’s oldest and most versatile building materials, having withstood the test of time. It is also a natural material, known to reduce stress and enhance well-being in an interior through its biophilic identity.
We believe that wood contributes to a world full of favourite places, and we want to provide it as an interior solution that is both beautiful and sustainable.
The safety and quality of our products
The use of wood in our living and working environments has a clear impact on our well-being – and at Decospan, we want to further enhance that positive impact.
Our sustainable development strategy includes specific steps to maintain the safety and quality of our products, such as limiting the emissions of our products.
We aim to eliminate added formaldehyde in 20% of our products by 2025 by assessing the chemical composition of adhesives and finishes and opting for zero or low-emission alternatives.
Product life cycle assessments
An Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) is a verified and registered document that provides transparent information about the environmental impact of a particular product.
The foundation of an EPD lies in a thorough life cycle assessment (LCA), allowing people to evaluate a product’s environmental performance – from raw material to manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal.
Our first set of EPDs, for our Parky floors, is complete and by 2025, we plan to complete the LCAs of all product categories and the EPDs for all strategic collections.
It takes around 60 years for a tree to become fully mature, on average.
Our goal for 2040: we want the life cycle of our wood products to last longer than this typical growth cycle. We also want at least 90% of products to be certified, prioritising both durability and performance.
With this approach, we can maintain a beautiful interior aesthetic with our products but still align them with responsible forestry practices and conservation efforts.
