Bringing a contemporary look to a turn-of-the-century townhouse isn’t an easy feat, but kluster architecten pulls it off flawlessly.
Modern elements, fashionable lighting, trending colours and unusual shapes meet their counterparts in stained glass windows, art-deco features, a herringbone parquet and crown moulding – all honouring the building’s history with a respectful nod.
Aside from an unexpected pop of colour in specific areas – such as the reading nook in a trending deep red – the interior sticks to cream, black and grey tones, leaving room for the natural materials such as stone and wood to do the talking.
Decospan’s Shinnoki Smoked Walnut is present throughout the entire house, from the headboard in the bedroom to a fully-clad kitchen, maintaining a consistent look that’s infused with warmth.
One area in the house where this is especially apparent is the kitchen. Situated at the back of the house and looking out into the garden, the influx of natural light turns the wood into the protagonist in this piece.
The true character and playfulness of this wood veneer becomes apparent, highlighting the different contrasts and variations in the wood.
The liveliness of the wood, the careful attention to detail and the history and personality of the building turn this house into a home – and into a favourite place.
